Offering study hall during the day benefits students

From school, to sports, to jobs, most high school students struggle fitting time in their busy schedule to do hours of homework. It is clear many students simply don’t have the time to take on large amounts of homework every night. With the help of a study hall, students could prevent falling behind in their classes. However, others disagree saying it would just be seen as a social hour. Dean Boche states, “There is a certain population that would use this time very well but there’s also a list of kids that wouldn’t.” On the other hand, Elizabeth Ryan disagrees stating, “I think a lot of students would use the time to do homework they didn’t do the night before and it’d be a lot nicer to have the time during the day to do that.”

By students not doing their homework, it not only creates a problem for them but also for parents and teachers. Having a study hour for students would help them be able to consistently do their homework and therefore their grades would automatically improve because students would actually understand the material. Whether people would see the time as a study hall or social hour it is obvious students don’t have the time to do their work.
