There are many people out there with dry skin and there are also many ways to help with it. Here are some tips to take better care of your skin so you don’t have to worry about it drying out:

  • Don’t use hot water when washing your face because hot water strips your skin of the protective oils needed to trap moisture that you need to keep your skin refreshed
  • Keep your showers warm, not hot. Don’t stay in the shower or bath for more than the recommended ten minutes.
  • Use soapless cleansers. Dermatologist Carolyn Jacob, MD suggests that you consider cleansers that contain ceramides, which are “fatty molecules that make up the outer barrier of your skin. They help skin hold in moisture.”
  • Make sure you cover up when in the sun, even if it’s winter. Use sunscreen to protect yourself and make sure that you don’t use more than you need.
  • Humidify in the winter! When the air is cold and dry, it allows for your skin to become more dry as well.
