Boys hockey is going to state! After a very emotional game, South came out on top 3-1 over the Panthers. It was a very suspenseful game with a 1-1 score for the majority. Each team knew that number two was the difference maker. Once South delivered midway through the third period, the Rochester Rec Center lit up. South sports teams haven’t won a big game against North in a long time, and every Cougar fan was visualizing that streak coming to an end.

Many expected a lopsided game with the Panthers roaring. It ended up a lot more competitive game than anticipated, with players’ emotions showing on the ice. There were a number of penalties swaying the momentum and chances for each team to capitalize. In the end, it came down to defense. Then in the third period, South made a big move, getting number two and capping it off with number three with a few minutes left. Each team deserves recognition for a well-fought game and a great night. Those are the hardest to lose, but the greatest memories. Now the Cougars are waiting for the seeding and will hope to create new memories when the State Tournament starts on March 8.
