Lakeville south marching band won 3rd in this year’s state band competition and AA championship in their class. Tons of students join marching band each year eager to win these awards for our school.
“Thought it would be a fun opportunity to join”. Ethan McMillan, a member of the Lakeville South Marching Band said. He plays saxophone and has only been apart of marching band for 1 year. He has really enjoyed his first year being apart of the high school program.
Ethan is currently in concert band and continues to play the instrument he enjoys and loves getting to play the songs the band teachers provide for him. The band has 2 concerts coming up. One is on Tuesday at 7. This concert will showcase steel pans and jazz band. The other concert will be on Thursday also at 7. This concert will feature concert band only.
Most members of concert band were in marching band. Ethan really loved marching band this year and is looking forward to doing it again next year . He said that he“ended up loving it”. I asked Ethan why he thought marching band was so fun and this was his response: “It was definitely fun because I got to be around people that I know are the same. Like we all love band. We all share the same qualities. Got to see friends participate in a new thing, Get to see smiles and everyone’s genuine enjoyment of the activity.” The marching band ended up winning 3rd in state for AA championship in their class. Ethan felt so much emotion when he found out what place they got, “It felt great knowing all the effort we had put into it, and it was just a great feeling overall. But the people who are veterans of the program [experienced their last marching band season]. They felt like people had tears in their eyes because they were so excited all throughout marching band, including summer”. The marching band has been very successful this year. Ethan is very excited and enthusiastic to continue to be a part of the program. He hopes they can get the number 1 spot next year in the AA band championship.
