Benson Boone, when hearing this name what probably comes to mind is a fictional character. In reality, this is a real person who makes music. This last week, our journalism club received promotional items including calendars and bookmarks. These promotional items weren’t just sent to us but to many high schools across the nation. This leads us to the question: who is behind this, an organization or the artist himself?
Upon further inspection of what we were sent, we realized that it was not directly sent to us by Boone himself, but rather from a group called “MOXIE.” Research as well as the information provided explains that this group supplies student-led organizations with free music and videos, as long as it is reported back to them whether or not the music was used. This group aims to help students write more- specifically about music reviews.
The main promotional purpose The Current was chosen for, among others was to review Boone’s new song: “Beautiful Things.” This song, identified under the pop genre was released on January 18th. Though it may not be my preference for music, people seem to enjoy this song. People on TikTok and YouTube have been enjoying this song, and we see this through their comments and posts. Specifically, it is his powerful vocals and lyrics in this song that stand out to his listeners Neon Music (1) notes that this song “is a reflection of human emotions—love, fear, and gratitude.” Because of this song’s lyricism, people can connect to what Benson Boone is singing about. People commenting on his music video appreciate the lyrics: “If everything’s good and it’s great, why do I sit and wait until it’s gone?” They believe that these lyrics speak to them and reach them in a way that other songs can not.
While hundreds of posters and bookmarks did not sway my opinion on this track, individuals who enjoy melodic pop music might find themselves with a new favorite artist.
