Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is the latest installment in the Call of Duty series, scheduled to release October 25 of this year. It’s developed by Treyarch who created the Black Ops series and the fan favorite mode “Zombies”. It’s releasing on XBOX, PlayStation, and Windows and will be cross-gen. According to ESPORTS.net Black Ops 6 has been in development for 4 years now, compared to the normal 2 year development time. Here’s what to expect with the upcoming game:
Campaign
According to GAMERANT: Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will feature a campaign with about 8 hours of gameplay. Some blurbs on the Call of Duty website provide limited details: “The Black Ops 6 Campaign provides moment-to-moment gameplay that includes a variety of play spaces with blockbuster set pieces and action-packed moments, high-stakes, and cloak-and-dagger spy activity.” The campaign takes place during the gulf war (1990-1991) and follows “Black Ops veteran Frank Woods and his team” who are “ Forced to go rogue”. Much of the game’s advertising also has heavy themes of conspiracy and espionage, so expect heavy spy theming.
Multiplayer
The multiplayer this year is very promising with some new quirks but also fan favorite features returning. Treyarch is promising 16 new maps on launch, which is refreshing after all the map remakes in the recent Modern Warfare entries into the Call of Duty series. Old school fans will be happy to hear that the prestige system is making a comeback. The biggest new gimmick for Black Ops 6 is the “omnimovement”, allowing you to run, slide, and dive in all directions. Black Ops 6 also has player’s characters automatically lean around corners giving a tactical feel to searching for your enemies. Another heavily talked about ability is being able to take your enemies as a shield when you sneak up behind them. This will of course bring some controversy over violence or cruelty from parents, but it has also led to some funny moments online, due to the fact that voice chat is enabled between the two players involved. With all of these new features and the 91’ setting, multiplayer endearingly gives the vibe of an 80s or 90s B-movie.
Zombies
Black Ops 6 is set to have the return of round based Zombies. A fan favorite mode where you have to survive waves of increasingly stronger undead. After the most recent few Zombies modes have disappointed hardcore fans, hopefully Treyarch the original creators of the gamemode will deliver. Treyarch has promised 2 new maps for at launch. With Split screen being missing from recent Zombies modes that’s definitely a hoped for feature of Black Ops 6.
With a culmination of exciting new features and the return of classic features, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is set to be an exciting release by the fan favorite studio Treyarch. Let’s hope for another exciting year of COD.
