It Follows is a movie that came out in 2014, and in 2025 will start production of its sequel, They Follow. The film stars actors Maika Monroe, Jake Weary, and Keir Gilchrist. A Detroit, Michigan, neighborhood is where the movie was filmed, which helps add to the suburban feel of the movie. This movie is eerie, ominous, and suspenseful, making it a great spooky movie for Halloween. The film’s cinematography is dark, and the constant chilling music adds to the suspense of it all. This movie is rated R (17+), and it features very graphic content, so I would not recommend it for younger students.
The movie is based mainly on the spread of a disease, which tries to kill you. Once you receive the disease, which is given to you by sleeping with someone, the only way you can get rid of it is by sleeping with someone else. If you get the disease, anxiety and fear will overcome you, as you have to be on a constant lookout for death, which appears in the form of people you know. If death manages to get too close to you, you die. Along with the disease, we follow a group of young adults who find themselves fighting for their lives to try to survive. They attempt to find new ways to avoid the disease or help their friends, but this struggle is endless.
The overall feeling after watching the movie was that it was very violent and had a disturbing theme. This would be perfect for you if you’re into these types of movies.
