First announced in 2014, the Minecraft Movie has been a long time coming. It began production in January 2024 and finished in April 2024 to be released just two weeks ago on April 4th, 2025. With a record-breaking $163 million opening weekend, the Minecraft Movie has been thrilling across age groups. Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, and Sebastian Hansen starred in the movie, where they stepped into a portal to the world of Minecraft, where Jack Black (Steve) meets them as a local resident. 

To the delight of fans and the community, the Minecraft movie featured several well-known cameos. Hidden among the main cast, Minecraft YouTubers, streamers, and other content creators appeared. Notably, Technoblade (Alexander), who passed away in 2022, was mentioned via an animated representation of his iconic character: a pig with a crown.

Torn between targeted humor, not-quite accurate representation, and a star-studded cast, opinion is still divided among critics and game enthusiasts. Rotten Tomatoes only gives the movie 63%, but fans have praised it in exit polls of 90 %+. Ultimately, you won’t know if you like it until you watch it!
