Some seniors in Lakeville Schools will have the chance to cast a vote on issues that directly impact their school district.

On November 7, a special election will be held for ISD 194. Residents of the Lakeville Area Schools district will have the opportunity to vote on a two question referendum.  A referendum is used to vote on a specific question rather than for a political candidate. Both questions this year concern sustaining a growing district with adequate staff and services.

Question 1 asks voters if funding should be approved to staff and operate Highview Elementary starting fall 2024. If passed, an additional $100 per student would be added to the general education revenue.

Question 2 asks voters to consider raising funds by an additional $250 per student. This money would be used to expand mental health services and behavioral and academic support throughout all Lakeville schools. It would also be used to ensure high quality staff and long term staff retention.  Question 2 can only be passed if Question 1 is passed.

The money would come from an increase in property taxes for residents within the Lakeville Area School district. For the average Lakeville homeowner this means an additional $15 per month to create a total revenue of $4.6 million dollars per year for both questions. The referendum would be effective for 10 years unless otherwise changed by law.
