Lakeville South’s theater program has been around since 2005. The program has grown increasingly since then. One of our journalists has done a deep dive into the 2026’s spring musical to see what’s happening on and off the stage.
Despite being extremely rewarding, the rehearsal process for actors and tech is long and sometimes exhausting. Rehearsals for actors in 2026 started on February 9th.
In the early stages, rehearsal usually lasts from 3 until 5:30. Once the actors were about halfway through March, rehearsal time increased dramatically, with most rehearsals going as late as 10pm through tech week.
What is tech week?
Tech week is the week(s) right before the show where the cast and crew run everything together (cue-to-cue). Before tech week, the cast and crew are separated, so it can be a little bit difficult to run the show the first few times. Tech week begins with cue-to-cue. The end of tech week is when the cast are in full costume and makeup, running the show like there is an audience. Jay Thayer explains, “Tech week means a lot of last-second finishing touches, fixing things that ended up not working out, and blood, sweat, and tears. There’s later hours than usual and everyone is a little freaked out as we all realize that we have to show the general public what we’ve made.” (Senior, Tech)

What is Hadestown
Hadestown is relatively a very new musical, first premiering on Broadway March 2019. The music was written by Anaïs Mitchell who is an acclaimed American singer-songwriter, musician, and playwright. Hadestown is the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice reimagined with trains and machinery. Set in a depression time period, the storyline follows two young lovers battling with love and mortal necessities. The plot explores themes of conflict including: industry and nature, doubt and faith, and fear and love. And to leave you with the words of an actor: “It’s a story of love, persistence, and hope. I hope everyone who sees it can feel the impact that it has on all of us!” (Josie TeHennepe, Senior, Fate)
